Overview

The appearance of moles can affect your confidence and overall skin health. Our goal is to provide safe, effective, and minimally invasive treatments to remove unwanted moles, enhancing your skin’s appearance and giving you peace of mind. Specializing in shave excision mole surgery, our experienced team is dedicated to delivering optimal results with minimal discomfort and downtime.

Shave excision is a common and effective procedure used to remove raised moles from the skin. This technique involves carefully shaving off the mole at the skin’s surface, providing a smooth and natural-looking result. Shave excision is particularly suitable for moles that are raised above the skin or those that cause irritation or cosmetic concerns.

Benefits

1. Minimal Scarring

Shave excision is designed to minimize scarring, making it an excellent option for moles located in visible areas. The technique leaves a smooth surface that blends seamlessly with the surrounding skin.

2, Quick and Convenient

The procedure is quick, often taking less than 30 minutes, and is typically performed in an outpatient setting. You can return to your normal activities shortly after the procedure, with minimal downtime.

3. Effective and Safe

Shave excision is a highly effective method for removing raised moles. It is a safe procedure with a low risk of complications, especially when performed by our experienced surgeons.

4. Aesthetic Benefits

By removing moles that are raised, irregular, or cosmetically concerning, shave excision can significantly improve the aesthetic appearance of your skin, boosting your confidence and overall satisfaction.

The Procedure

Comprehensive Evaluation

Our approach begins with a thorough evaluation of your skin. During your consultation, Mr Shiatis will assess the mole(s) in question, discuss your medical history, and evaluate any concerns you may have. This comprehensive assessment ensures that shave excision is the most appropriate treatment for your needs.

The Shave Excision Procedure

  • Anesthesia: The area around the mole is numbed with a local anesthetic to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure

  • Excision: Using a specialized surgical blade, the mole is carefully shaved off flush with the surrounding skin. This technique minimizes scarring and promotes a natural appearance.

  • Hemostasis: Any bleeding is controlled using cauterization to ensure a clean and safe procedure.

  • Healing: A protective dressing is applied to the area, and aftercare instructions are provided to support optimal healing.

Healing Timeline

Immediate Post-Procedure

  • First 24-48 Hours:Initial Care: You may experience some redness, swelling, and minor discomfort at the treatment site. Apply any recommended ointments and keep the area clean.
Pain Management: Mild pain or tenderness can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers, as advised by your surgeon.

  • Dressings: A bandage or dressing will be applied to protect the area. Follow your surgeon’s instructions for keeping the area clean and dry.

First Week

  • Swelling and Redness: These are common and should gradually decrease. It’s normal for the area to appear slightly inflamed.

  • Scab Formation: A scab will form over the treated area as part of the natural healing process. Avoid picking or scratching the scab to prevent scarring and infection.

  • Cleaning: Gently clean the area as instructed, using a mild soap and water. Avoid using harsh chemicals or scrubs.

Two Weeks to One Month

  • Scab Healing: The scab will gradually fall off, revealing new skin underneath. The area may still be pink or slightly discolored.

  • Normal Activities: You can usually resume normal activities, but avoid sun exposure and swimming until the area is fully healed.

  • Skin Care: Apply sunscreen to protect the healing skin from UV damage, as this can affect pigmentation and scar formation.

One Month to Three Months

  • Final Healing: The treated area will continue to improve in appearance. Pinkness or discoloration will fade over time, and the skin will regain its natural color.

  • Scar Maturity: The final appearance of the scar will become more apparent. Scars typically mature and soften within several months. Using silicone gel or scar treatments as recommended can help improve scar appearance.

Long-Term Care

  • Ongoing Monitoring: Keep an eye on the healing site for any signs of complications, such as increased redness, swelling, or unusual changes. Contact your surgeon if you have concerns.

  • Sun Protection: Continue to protect the area from sun exposure to prevent hyperpigmentation and ensure optimal healing.

Ideal Candidate for Shave Excision

  • Non-Cancerous Moles:Type: Candidates should have moles that are benign (non-cancerous) and not suspected of being melanoma or other skin cancers.
Evaluation: A thorough examination by a dermatologist or surgeon is essential to confirm that the mole is benign before proceeding with removal.

  • Raised or Protruding Moles:Appearance: Shave mole removal is particularly effective for moles that are raised above the skin’s surface. It is not typically used for flat moles.
Goals: Ideal candidates are those seeking to remove moles for cosmetic reasons or to alleviate discomfort caused by the mole.

  • Good Overall Health:General Health: Candidates should be in good overall health without conditions that could impair healing or increase the risk of complications.
Medical History: Inform your surgeon of any medical conditions or medications that might affect the healing process.

  • Realistic Expectations:Outcome: Ideal candidates should have realistic expectations about the results of the procedure. While shave mole removal can improve appearance, it may not be suitable for all types of moles.
Healing: Understanding the healing process and potential for scarring is crucial. The procedure can leave a scar, though it is typically minimal and fades over time.

  • Commitment to Aftercare:Post-Procedure Care: Candidates should be willing to follow post-operative care instructions, including keeping the area clean and protected, avoiding sun exposure, and attending follow-up appointments.

  • No Active Skin Infections:Infection-Free: Candidates should not have active skin infections or conditions that could complicate the healing process. Any existing infections should be treated before proceeding with mole removal.
