Overview
The combination of ageing, pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight changes, and genetics can lead to sagging breasts and a loss of volume. We are dedicated to helping you restore a youthful, full, and uplifted breast appearance through augmentation mastopexy, a procedure that combines a breast lift with implants.
Augmentation mastopexy, or breast lift with implants, is a surgical procedure designed to address both sagging (ptosis) and volume loss in the breasts. This comprehensive approach combines the lifting and firming benefits of a mastopexy (breast lift) with the volume enhancement provided by breast implants, resulting in fuller, more youthful, and aesthetically pleasing breasts.
Benefits
Restored Volume: Enhance the fullness and size of your breasts with implants.
Lifted and Firmed Appearance: Achieve a higher, firmer breast position by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue.
Improved Nipple Position: Reposition the nipples to a more natural and youthful location.
Symmetry and Balance: Correct asymmetries to achieve a balanced and harmonious breast appearance.
Boosted Confidence: Enjoy renewed self-confidence and satisfaction with your appearance.
Understanding the Procedure: Techniques, Scars, and Nipple Position
Techniques: Augmentation mastopexy involves a combination of techniques tailored to your specific needs:
Incision Patterns: Depending on the degree of lift and augmentation required, the surgeon may use different incision patterns:
Anchor or Inverted-T Incision: Involves an incision around the areola, vertically down to the breast crease, and along the breast crease, ideal for significant lifting and reshaping.
Lollipop or Vertical Incision: Involves an incision around the areola and vertically down to the breast crease, suitable for moderate lifting and reshaping.
Doughnut or Periareolar Incision: Involves an incision around the areola, suitable for mild lifting and minimal scarring.
Implant Placement: Implants can be placed above or below the chest muscle (subglandular or submuscular) based on your anatomy and desired outcome. During our consultation we will collectively decide the best implant shape and type in addition to the plane of insertion.
Scars: Scarring is a natural part of the healing process. Our surgeons use advanced techniques to minimise scarring and place incisions in discreet locations. Over time, scars typically fade and become less noticeable. We provide detailed aftercare instructions to promote optimal healing and scar management.
Nipple Position: During the procedure, the nipple and areola are repositioned to a higher, more natural location. The size of the areola may also be reduced for a more proportionate appearance. Our surgeons take great care to maintain blood and nerve supply to preserve nipple sensation.
The Procedure
Augmentation mastopexy is typically performed under general anesthesia and involves the following steps:
Anesthesia: Administered to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure.
Incision: The chosen incision pattern is made based on the degree of lift and augmentation needed.
Implant Placement: Breast implants are inserted into the appropriate position (subglandular or submuscular).
Reshaping and Lifting: Excess skin is removed, and the breast tissue is reshaped to create a firmer, uplifted contour.
Nipple Repositioning: The nipple and areola are repositioned to a higher, more youthful location. The size of the areola may be reduced if necessary.
Closure: Incisions are closed with sutures, and the area is bandaged for support.
Recovery
Recovery from augmentation mastopexy varies for each individual, but general guidelines include:
Initial Recovery: Most patients take 1-2 weeks off from work and normal activities to rest and heal.
Wearing a Support Bra: A surgical bra or support garment is recommended to minimize swelling and support the breasts during the healing process.
Managing Discomfort: Pain and discomfort can be managed with prescribed medications. Swelling and bruising are common but subside over time.
Follow-Up Appointments: Regular check-ups are necessary to monitor healing and remove sutures if needed.
Resuming Activities: Light activities can be resumed after a few weeks, but strenuous activities and heavy lifting should be avoided for at least 4-6 weeks.
Scar Care: Specific instructions on scar care will be provided to promote healing and minimize scar appearance.
